Welcome to Fascinating Education. I am a retired neurologist trying to improve our children's science and math skills.
My teaching methodology uses narrated images, no textbook. Even math formulas are explained visually, using graphs. I also make every effort to explain science so that it makes sense -- that it's not just memorization, and has practical uses in our lives.
I developed my teaching methodology in my career as a neurologist at the University of Alabama and University of Maryland Medical Schools teaching over 2500 medical students and residents. In 2007, I put my teaching methodology to the test by teaching biology1 hour a week to the entire junior class (97 students) at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Maryland. That year, the pass rate on the statewide, standardized HSA exams (for which passing was a requirement for high school graduation) rose from 40% the year before I taught to 87% the year I taught. (See the graph below.)
As a neurologist, I have a handle on how the brain learns and how anxiety interferes with learning. I've concluded that students' greatest anxiety isn't about science. It's about the the math necessary to understand science. To relieve their anxiety, I've prepared free math curricula, specific for science, for different age groups.
I am happy to help out, collaborate, and discuss the problems and potential solutions to what we should all see as a serious national security problem. Feel free to contact me either by email at fasc.ed@gmail.com or by phone at 240-460-9000.
I encourage you to browse the grammar school, middle school, and high school science and math curricula. The high school curricula include anatomy and physiology and the logic of medicine.
I welcome your comments, questions, and suggestions. I can be reached by email at fasc.ed@gmail.com or by phone at 240-460-9000.
